Brian James is an experienced divorce and family mediator with offices throughout Chicagoland and Southeastern Wisconsin. He founded his mediation practice, C.E.L. & Associates, Inc., in late 2005.
Brian earned his B.S. in Sociology from Northern Illinois University in 1994 and later completed training in Mediation and Conflict Resolution through Northwestern University.
During the first 10 years of his professional career, Brian worked in the criminal justice system, helping families affected by domestic violence and divorce work through conflict and difficult life transitions. That experience helped shape the client-driven approach he brings to mediation today.
By helping clients resolve divorce and family issues outside of the courtroom, Brian works to create a more constructive process in which people can better understand their options, communicate more effectively, and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
Brian believes mediation can do more than help people resolve the immediate issues in front of them. It can also help participants strengthen problem-solving, communication, empathy, and self-determination skills that may serve them in future conflicts.
Brian recently celebrated 30 years of marriage to his wife, Cindy. They have two sons, Connor, age 25 forever, and Evan, age 25. Connor and Evan are the C. and E. in C.E.L. & Associates, Inc.
