Mediation Resources

Ellen Barron Feldman is an experienced attorney and mediator who brings decades of legal, conflict resolution, and community experience to her work with individuals and families.

Ellen graduated from Smith College in 1978 with a degree in government and earned her law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1981. She then spent 15 years practicing commercial litigation in Chicago, trying cases, arguing motions, and appearing before Illinois state and federal courts.

In 2006, Ellen began volunteering with The Lilac Tree in Evanston, a nonprofit organization that assists women and men going through divorce. She completed Family and Divorce Mediation Training through the DePaul University Center for Conflict Resolution in 2005, followed by Advanced Family Mediation training that same year.

Ellen has been appointed to the 19th Judicial Circuit Family Mediation Program list of court-approved mediators for Lake County, Illinois, and has frequently volunteered as a mediator in Lake County. Her professional memberships have included the Chicago Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County, and other professional networking groups.

Ellen believes mediation can help divorcing individuals and families resolve disputes more efficiently while reducing unnecessary conflict and keeping participants involved in important decisions.

She also sees mediation as an opportunity to help people better understand their finances, strengthen problem-solving skills, and prepare for issues that may arise later in a co-parenting relationship.
